STEM Discovery Days lesson highlights

Our extensive science lesson library makes it easy for schools to engage students in materials-rich, hands-on science and engineering experiences. Below are examples of some of the lessons we offer.
Anatomy and Physiology
Examples of Anatomy and Physiology lessons include students playing the role of predators to experience the benefits of camouflage, dissecting owl pellets to discover owls’ role in the ecosystem, or racing their classmates to gather the resources they need to photosynthesize and grow the tallest!
Chemistry
Examples of Chemistry lessons include students exploring the states of matter using dry ice, creating their own pH scale to understand acids and bases, or identifying a mystery substance using analytical chemistry.
Earth Science
Examples of Earth Science lessons include students excavating fossils as paleontologists, modeling our solar system to understand the scale of space as astronomers, or demonstrating the rain shadow effect with a mini-mountain as geologists.
Engineering
Examples of Engineering lessons include students creating Rube Goldberg devices using simple machines, engineering with Legos to design and improve their own bookshelf models, or creating prototype solutions to solve the problem of beach erosion.
Life Science
Examples of Life Science lessons include students playing the role of predators to experience the benefits of camouflage, dissecting owl pellets to discover owls’ role in the ecosystem, or racing their classmates to gather the resources they need to photosynthesize and grow the tallest!
Physics
Examples of Physics lessons include students building circuits to test the conductivity of common materials, observing how light interacts with various objects, and investigating the thermal properties of different materials in order to design an insulating coffee mug.
Scientific Practices
Examples of Scientific Practices' lessons include students attempting to replicate the external behavior of an unknown system, or demonstrate their observation skills by describing a mystery object using qualitative and quantitative clues.
Technology
Examples of Technology lessons include students writing conditional statements to guide a robot to explore Mars’ landscape, spying on social media posts to advertise movies (and learning about the dangers of social media), or discovering how complicated it really is to recycle that old broken phone.

What teachers say

  • SciSci opened many of my students’ eyes to new opportunities and allowed them to see themselves as scientists. It also showed career paths that follow these skills and gave them opportunities to be hands-on in the basics of those fields.
