Volunteer and employee engagement
Host a team kit building event
Gather your team for a good cause—to build Science from Scientists (SciSci) STEM lesson kits for elementary and middle school children! Your team will be helping SciSci make hands-on lessons and kit materials to engage youth ages 7-14 in your local area. SciSci will bring all of the materials needed to facilitate the kit-build event. To make the experience more engaging and meaningful, we will provide a brief presentation and a lesson demo in addition to the actual build. Choose from the STEM kit build options below.

Build Candy Chromatography STEM Kits
Participants flexible
This colorful and magical experience is a STEM activity designed to engage youth ages 8-14 for a 10 to 30-minute at-home activity. Youth engaging with the kit will have the opportunity to see the rainbow by exploring chromatography, a technique for the separation, purification, and testing of compounds.
The term “chromatography” is derived from Greek, chroma meaning "color” and graphein meaning “to write.” Youth collect and interpret data that will show them the variety of food dyes present in brightly-colored candy.
These take-home kits include all of the supplies and a small booklet with instructions featuring a Scientist Spotlight—an actual scientist who uses chromatography in their work. The instructions also include a QR code to scan to watch a video of one of our Scientist Educators explaining how to do the Candy Chromatography take-home lesson.

Build CSI Fingerprinting STEM Kits
Participants flexible
Get ready to step into the shoes of a forensic scientist! This immersive STEM activity is designed to engage youth ages 8–14 in a 10–30 minute at-home investigation. By exploring the science of fingerprints, budding detectives will uncover how evidence can reveal who’s been at the scene of the crime.
Everyone’s fingertips have unique ridges and grooves, and these leave behind impressions called fingerprints. Forensic scientists use specialized techniques to collect prints at the scene, analyze them back at the lab, and search through databases to match them to an individual. Now it’s your turn to crack the case!
Our CSI Fingerprint Take-Home STEM Kit comes with all the supplies needed. You’ll even find a Scientist Spotlight featuring a real forensic scientist! Ready to solve a mystery? Watch one of our Scientist Educators demonstrate this activity.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring home a take-home STEM kit to share with their families.
After all, the idea is to spread the love of science to more children!

Build Grade 2 Classroom STEM Kits
Participants flexible
SciSci completed a successful semester pilot of our 2nd-grade full science curriculum in Massachusetts, Minnesota, and California in May 2024. Because of the overwhelmingly positive feedback from classroom teachers and administrators, SciSci will be rolling out a year’s worth of full science curriculum for 2nd grade starting in September 2024.
Have your team be part of the first annual summer Grade 2 STEM supplies drive, and kit builds to prepare for SciSci’s rollout of the full curriculum!
We’re doing a special social media campaign featuring corporate partners participating in the Grade 2 effort. SciSci would coordinate, facilitate, and bring all of the materials to your company’s office to make the event easy to do and deliver maximum impact for all those who can participate. This team-building experience could involve things like cutting, laminating, counting out materials, and helping to make sure classroom kits are ready to go.
